Learning To Write

OK, I admit it.  I’m learning to write, all over again.

I’ve written songs.  I’ve written poems, and I’ve dabbled in Flash Fiction.  Now that I have enough meat in my story lines, I’m going for the short story form.  What a wonderful discovery!!  I’ve learned the hard way that research is integral to good story telling!  Yay!

I’ve also learned that the amount of research I did in preparation for NaNoWriMo was inadequate – yay!  And no, I don’t mean that sarcastically.  True, it will cost me a win in the 2014 challenge (yes, I’m already conceding).  BUT – it prepares me for the challenge I have on my plate – complete this series.

I’m still excited by my story premises.  I’m still excited to meet my characters and find out more about them as I write.  I just can’t move forward with the story lines until I have all of the geographical, historical and timeline perspectives in place.  In other words, I’m learning a great deal about the best way to process my own writing.  I’m learning what kind of writer I am in terms of that process.

I’m still excited.  For me, that’s the best sign of continuity.  Cheers!    ~TH~

  1. I love your attitude. Most writers would get discouraged about realizing they hadn’t planned enough, but I really appreciate how you are taking on the challenge and staying positive. Kudos!
